WELCOME TO THE

Trussville Area Lions Club

About Us

Lions are groups of service-minded men and women who are interested in improving their community. Our Trussville Chapter is a chapter of Lions International (https://www.lionsclubs.org/en)

and located in Alabama District 34B. We were chartered in September of 2021. We represent the community that we serve. Therefore, you will find us a diverse club from retired to still in school, Hispanic, Caucasian, and African American.

Our International Areas of Service are Childhood Cancer, Diabetes, Disaster Relief, Environment, Humanitarian Efforts, Hunger, Youth, and Vision.

However, our most widely-known area of service is vision because the mighty Helen Keller charged Lions International at their 1925 convention to "be knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." Therefore, we collect glasses and recycle them at our state recycle center in Moody, Ala., to be used on international humanitarian trips and we support Alabama Lions Sight, (https://alabamalionssight.org/ )a project of Alabama Lions 34.

Our club meets once a quarter in person for fellowship, but we operate as a members only Facebook group and meet in person for our monthly service projects. If you are looking for an outlet to serve the community with big impact and little time commitment, we are for you! We believe it is a big deal to be an Alabama Lion because we are home to Helen Keller and home to multiple international presidents! Our international motto is #weserve and we like to add the #roar hashtag as well! Our history dates back to 1917 and we couldn't be more proud of our legacy. Check out our history on YouTube! “For nearly four decades, the Lions International Peace Poster Contest has given children ages 11-13 the opportunity to share what peace means to them through art. Each year, Lions clubs around the world sponsor the contest in schools and organized youth groups, giving young people the opportunity to be recognized at local and international levels — and awarded a grand prize of US $5,000 — for their creativity in sharing their vision of the current year’s theme." Every November we collect toys for 'Toys for Tots' Jefferson County.

Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) not-for-profit public charity is the fund raising, funding and support organization for the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The Foundation was created at the behest of the U. S. Marine Corps and provides support in accordance with a Memorandum of Understanding with the Commander, Marine Forces Reserve, who directs the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program. The Foundation has supported Toys for Tots since 1991.

The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to needy children in the community in which the campaign is conducted. (toysfortots.org)

Every May, our club makes more than 100 -homemade patriotic bows to hang at Trussville's local Fallen Warrior Monument.

"The Alabama Fallen Warrior Monument.

recognizes the 227 Alabama military service members that paid the ultimate sacrifice during the Global War on Terror. There were 115 killed in action and 112 died in a non-hostile death. There has been a service member killed from every county in Alabama and the ages range from 18-54 years old. It is said that when a military service member dies, the member dies two deaths. The first is when they take their last breath and the second is when they are forgotten. The mission of the Alabama Fallen Warrior Monument is to ensure the second death does not occur and to ensure that these fallen service members are not forgotten."

“Joining the Trussville Area Lions Club has filled a place in my heart. By focusing on others, I become a stronger person. The fellowship statewide has provided me some of the best friends I have ever known. My membership has been a win all the way around and I am glad someone asked me to join! You never know who will make a great Lion! It is truly for everyone.”
